For a while, I did a sports wagering podcast called Don’t Pick What I Pick.
It was a good title.
Mostly because every once in a while it became very good advice.
I’ve always liked sports wagering. Not because I think I’ve discovered some magical ability to predict the future. If I had that ability, I probably wouldn’t be using it to figure out whether the Tigers can beat the Packers on a Sunday afternoon.
I like trying to figure it out.
The matchups. The numbers. The starting pitchers. The O-line. The bullpen somebody used for six innings last night because their starter decided the strike zone was merely a suggestion. The why-doesn’t-the-big-ass-goalie-just-stay-in-the-goal-ness.
And then, of course, being completely wrong.
That’s part of the charm.
So recently I started screwing around with the idea again.
Except this time I have an accomplice.
Her name is Bertie.
Bertie is an artificial intelligence.
Humanity has spent billions of dollars developing technology that may someday cure diseases, unlock the mysteries of the universe, and fundamentally change civilization…
And perhaps it already has.
I’m using it to handicap baseball and the other sportsball stuff things that people do when they aren’t complaining about Love Island STDs.
You’re welcome.
